So because that he is gonna do Indiana Jones, i tried to find the previous 3 movies in the series. Did some searching and found it in poly library and watched the Last crusade and enjoyed it. Then i was watched The Temple of Doom yesterday. In the movie Indiana crashes in India after escaping from China. He then finds himself in a village where the people there talk to him about their sorrows and ask him to retrieve the Sankara Stone from the Pankot Palace. But hey, they were speaking to Indiana in Sinhalese. I was shocked for a while. But then Harrison Ford also spoke back to them in Sinhalese. Shock!! Shock!!
So i did some googling and my freind wiki told me that the movie was shot in Kandy. Surprise Surprise!! Oh well, some of the old folks out here might know about this, but for guys like me whose parents were not even married in 1984, might not know about this. So check out the movie guys, to see Harrison Ford Speaking Sinhalese, Directed by Steven Spielberg and Produced by George Lucas.

I think around 10 or 12 years back, they wanted to shoot Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children in Sri Lanka. But Muslims in Sri Lanka was outraged since Salman have a bounty on his heard for writing a book. Spielberg said, he will do his next movie in Sri Lanka, if we allow to makes that movie. Following Spielberg, some other directors also step forward.
But we decide, it is alright to offend Hollywood and give up truck load of dollars than offend Allah.
They shot the film in several locations, with (I belive) some of the unfinished tunnels on the Mahaweli project serving as a backdrop. Some of the extras were children of expats working on the project.
The sight of the lovely Kate Capshaw strolling down McCarthy Rd took my breath away (they stayed at a small hotel called the Cinnamon Gardens Inn - this is now an ad agency office-Lintas or something)
Talk about the bloody generation gap, you guys are making feel old for knowing this stuff first hand.
I didn't think there was a Sri Lankan out there who didn't know of this? 'Bridge on the river Kwai' was also shot in Lanka.

THere were some less celebrated ones too, including Tarzan, the Ape man starring Bo Derek. Most of these were organised by a company called Film Location Services which seemed to be fairly good at selling the country as a cheap place to make films, not sure if they are still active, although the man behind it, Chandran Ratnam is around.
